Today was one of those hurry up and wait days. We went through 13 bridges and a lock, and we had rotten luck with the first few bridges. They were railroad bridges that are up most of the time, of course they all had trains coming at the times when we were approaching the bridges. A few of these bridges were only a mile apart, so we just had to idle in place and wait. At least the sun was shining and we could be outside.
All the bridges held up our progress, and we only traveled 30 miles. We were going to tie up to the abandoned dock that we stayed at last year, but we decided to anchor in Blackwater Creek with another catamaran instead. It was a narrow creek, but it wasn't deep so we didn't have to put out a lot of chain.
The people on the catamaran next to us came over for a bit, they are from Tiverton, RI and are traveling to Oriental, NC. They left Monday and sailed straight from RI to Norfolk, and arrived on Wednesday. We had planned on doing something like that, but I am 8wks pregnant and couldn't handle it. I have been feeling a little bit green since we left Falmouth, and the thought of traveling off shore and not sleeping well for two nights wasn't something I thought I could do. Even though our trip has been stretched by not going off shore, the slow and steady travel seems to work out better for all of us!
